Inventor RESET Utility

Issue:

You want to use Autodesk® Inventor™ Reset Utility to reset the local Inventor environment for a Windows® User Account. 
Damaged local user account settings can impair the normal operation of Autodesk Inventor. 

Common symptoms include:

• Unable to export AutoCAD™ DWG 
• Unable to launch add-In
• Add-In commands are greyed in the ribbon
• Dialog boxes do not appear after launching a command
• Import/Export commands do not function
• Program crashes when entering add-in workspace 

Solution:

Note: It may be necessary to lower the User Account Control settings to the lowest level and temporarily disable any anti-virus software for the reset activity. 

To lower the User Account Control settings:

1. Browse to Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\User Accounts.
2. Select "Change User Account Control Settings."
3. Move the slider to the lowest setting, "Never Notify."
4. Select OK.

This process will remove all customizations done in the following areas:

• Ribbon
• Keyboard shortcuts
• Marking menu
• Application options
• Current Autoload state for Inventor add-ins
• Current state of Welcome Screen
• Recently opened files
• Vault Server login information

Another FREE App from Envisage - iNumber for Inventor 2014

Envisage have just finished another Inventor App.

iNumber for Inventor 2014 uses a shared database to enable Inventor users to save files using pre-defined numbering schemes. Support for frame generator numbering is also provided.

The registry location to change quickly change the installation from Standalone to Network for AutoCAD 2013 is here:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Autodesk\AutoCAD\R19.0\ACAD-B000\AdLM

NOTE: The value ACAD-B00 may change depending on your AutoCAD vertical. The example above is for AutoCAD Civil 3D 2013.

In that directory change the type for the installation that you require to edit Type:

1 – Network

2 – Standalone

3 – Multiseat Standalone

Turn ON/OFF all Inventor Work Features at a touch of a button

How many times have you added a new work feature to Inventor and all of a sudden dozens of others are displayed again, just after you have turned them OFF from the VIEW ribbon?
At last I've got around to documenting this really useful feature. I programme the # key to toggle the display of all work features.

Run up Inventor, go to TOOLS/CUSTOMIZE and select the KEYBOARD tab. Find "All Work Features" from the "command name" list and add the key "#" as shown below. click on OK, and you can now toggle the Work Features display with one keystroke!!

This is broken in 2013!

However follow these notes carefully in order to get it to work in 2013.

Navigate to the path below and edit InventorCustomization.xml file using Notepad.

C:\Users\<USERNAME>\AppData\Roaming\Autodesk\Inventor 2013

Use the Find command in Notepad to locate "AppiMateGlyphVisibilityCmd"

Copy & paste the line below "AppiMateGlyphVisibilityCmd" keyboard shortcut.

Edit the second occurence as "AppAllWorkfeaturesCmd"=hex:06,00,00,00,01,00,de,00,0f,c8

Migrating Inventor 2013 styles, materials & appearances

If you are having problems migrating your Inventor Styles to the new 2013 format - then try this:-


Copy your previous 2012 design data folder to a new folder on the server.
Rename lighting.xml to lighting.xml.old
Migrate the newly copied styles library to 2013 by using the “style library manager”  utility.
Manually copy proteinmapping.xml across from a locally installed 2013 styles library.
Point to this new location in TOOLS/APPLICATION OPTIONS/FILES tab within Inventor 2013.

Now migrate custom materials & colours:

The custom material is defined as part of your Materials.xml and Colors.xml file in 2012. For 2013, you want to migrate the custom material into a custom .adsklib library.

1. Start a new part.
2. In the QAT, click Material Browser:
   
3. In the browser toolbar, click Manage Migrate Inventor Styles.
   
4. In the Migrate Styles dialog box, specify the Migrate From location which where the Materials.xml and Colors.xml files reside. By default the path is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2012\Design Data in Windows 7.
   
5. Specify the Migrate To location which is typically the InventorMaterialsLibrary.adsk file or a custom library you create. By default the path is C:\Users\Public\Documents\Autodesk\Inventor 2013\Design Data\Materials in Windows 7.
6. Close and reopen the Material Browser.

Inventor 2012 hangs on exit

If you run into this problem,

Go to the add-in manager, right click and select show hidden, search for Simulation: Optimization and uncheck "Automatic start"

We saw the problem with a slow internet connection

How to disable reflection​s in Inventor Drawing shaded views

You want to disable reflections in drawing shaded views for screen printing drawings etc.

Run REGEDIT from the CMD prompt, and create a key as below:-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Autodesk\Inventor\Regi​stryVersion16.0\Applets\DrawingLayout\Preferences\​]



Create a key with this value:



"Suppress Specular Color"=dword:00000001


If the key is not present or its value is zero or less, then reflections are enabled under drawings (Default behavior).


Remember to re-start Inventor for this change to take place.
